Located in the confluence of the Se Done and Mekong Rivers, Pakse is the most important economic and tourism center of the Southern part of Laos. Pakse is the capital city of Champasak province with the population of approximately 70,000 people. Pakse has long history with many political changes.

This city used to be the capital of the Kingdom of Champasak until it was unified with the rest of Laos in 1946. Nowadays, thanks to the construction of a bridge over Mekong River, since 2002 Pakse Pakse has become an economic power and of regional importance within the region.

Pakse is quite developed city with a wide range of hotels and guest houses for tourists. Pakse also provides many interesting destinations for tourists. 17 kilometers far from Pakse on the Mekong River is Ban Sa Phai which famed for traditional silk weaving. This island has hundred years of history and today there are 44 families living there, making up the population of about 400 people and weaving fabric by hand. Arriving Ban Sa Phai, tourists will learn about the traditional process of weaving fabric. For tourists who are interested in about history of this city, ChampasakHistorical Heritage Museumis an ideal place to discover. It has a few works of artand a lot of record documents chronicling the history of the province as well as the simple textile and jewellery collection from the Nyaheun, Suay and Laven groups. Besides, the centre of Parkse is famous for Talat Dao Heung – one of the biggest markets in the country with many kinds of fresh products and coffee from the fertile Bolaven Plateau.

In addition, Pakse is an ideal place for ones who love food. Thanks to the various fresh products, food in Pakse is extremely various and delicious. There are many restaurants such as Xuan Mai, Khem Khong, Ketmany, Jasmine, Baguette Vendor which will fascinate and please your taste.

Last but not least, Pakse is becoming an increasingly popular starting point in Laos because there is an excellent road link, via Chong Mek, to Ubon Ratchathani a lovely city, easy to reach from Bangkok. And of course, it is totally a worth-visiting place.
